Testimonials

Visual Editors has been key to my education as a journalism student, and is an invaluable community for designers and editors around the world. I always recommend this site to other students as a place to receive feedback, pick up new skills and keep up with industry trends. Robb has also given myself and others the opportunity to blog to an audience of talented professional journalists.”

Well, I for one can say I’ve never felt so connected to so many comrades in our community. It fills in so many gaps in our field: the ability to get real-time feedback on your work, advice on your career, technical training and emotional support - all without leaving your home (or your job) to do so. I think there’s a real spirit of good-will on this board. Folks can rant, vent, ask embarrassing questions, share ideas good and bad, and get a real good sense of how things are working in other parts of the greater visual universe.

And, let’s face it. As a networking tool, it’s simply the best thing to come along since NPD.

I’m filling out my pledge card now; I know operators are standing by!

I learned about vizeds when I started at the Orlando Sentinel last year, and I am so glad. The site has made me grow as a designer! It is the best journalism learning tool. I wish I had had something like this when I was in college!

It is a great way to keep up with design trends and to get feedback. Its also a great way to meet other visual editors and I think it has made the visual journalism community tighter and stronger.

So much is changing in newpaper design, and I think this site is having a huge impact on the design world. Its allowing designers all over to communicate! And I think its important for both professional designers and j-school students to frequent this site.

When I graduated from Mizzou in 2003 and started my first job in the newspaper industry, I was immediately aware that I was no longer in a “learning environment.” At school I had become accustomed to constant feedback on my work and constantly learning new things. At school I was in a perpetual conversation with other learning designers about the newspaper industry and design. When I left, I was acutely aware of the void.

VizEds has filled that void. In fact, I am learning more from the community at VizEds than I think I ever did in j-school. I feel like I can constantly learn and grow and keep in-step with our changing industry.

The thing that I missed the most since I graduated a year ago was the constant critique, instruction and peer discussion that went on at school. Now I have that all at my finger tips again. Along with an unlimited resource of experts.

Thank you VizEds, you are my best friend.

VisualEditors.com has captured the energy, the passion, the angst, the drama, the craft, the politics, the imagination of visual journalists across the United States (and now the world).
» Denise Reagan, AME/Visuals, Jacksonville Florida

As a college designer at school with absolutely no design courses, let alone a design major, VizEd goes hand-in-hand with NPD.com as my online classroom.

Just getting my start at a small paper two years ago, I was in need of industry support. Vizeds caught my attention and now it’s something I check in with on a daily basis. The immediacy of the discussion of design and journalism issues and topics keeps me on top of the industry and in touch with a collective group that spans the globe. I’m addicted to it.
